Bastelica (850 m) is the highest village in Prunelli. Its wild landscapes and chestnut trees attract nature lovers in summer, and the powder snow on the plateau of Ese attract skiers in winter. Bastelica village is famous as being the site of the love story between the military commander of Henry II, Sampiero Corso, and Vannina of Orano. This story, according to legend, inspired Shakespeare's "Othello the Moor of Venice."
