Tox is located at an altitude of 420 metres and is part of the ancient parish of Verde. This village is surrounded by medium-sized mountains and is an excellent starting point for mountain lovers. From Tox you can reach: Punta Rosa (604 m), Punta Borsarone (681 m), Punta d'Acqua Freddola (819 m), Leccia Alta (886 m), Punta Mufuncello (1012 m) and Monte Sant'Appiano (1093 m). The main watercourse is the river of Bravona, which is fed by several streams. Tox is part of the regional natural park of Corsica.
This village was the main producer of cedar, which made Tox one of the richest villages of the island, but it was in the 19th century that this village reached a great economic importance thanks to the discovery and the exploitation of a copper mine called Linguizetta. Today this site, closed in1926, is part of the General inventory of cultural heritage.
Art lovers can visit the parish church of St John the Baptist (18th century), which was built on the foundations of a Romanesque building. This church is classified historical monument and its interior decoration is particularly remarkable. If you like walking, then you should take a look at the chapel of Our Lady of Grace (19th century), which is located at 700 metres above sea level near the peak of Monte Rosso.
If you walk through the village, you will find some old mills, some fountains and a few ruins scattered here and there.
This village is located at 23 km from Aléria, at 67 km from Corte and at 71 km from Bastia. Tox is crossed by the D16 road.
