Enthralling ascent through a wild and rocky landscape
The approach to the Col de l’Oiseau, the gap before Tower I, is one of Corsica’s most picturesque ascents. Near the summit, in the middle of a splendid rocky landscape, numerous »entertaining« and easy scrambles must be negotiated.
Location: Zonza, 778m.
Starting point: Bavella pass, 1218m. Parking possible at the top of the pass. Daily bus service from Porto-Vecchio (Porto-Vecchio 7:00 a.m., Ospédale 7:20 a.m., Zonza 8:05 a.m., return at 6:05 p.m.).
Height difference: a good 850m.
Grade: strenuous walk with some sections of scrambling; well-marked footpath.
Refreshment and accommodation: restaurants and auberge in Village de Bavella, hotels and campsite in Zonza.
