The Girolata Tower, with its imposing square form, overlooks Porto and Girolata. The tower was built at the request of the Bank of St. George to secure the Porto area from raids by the Barbary Pirates. It is at this same time that Fort Girolata, the Porto Tower and the Siaalso Tower were also built. These buildings are attributed to the architects; Da Levanto Geronimo and Giovan Battista de Franchi.
