Panoramic ascent to the southern pillar of the Vizzavona Pass
The walk to Punta di l’Oriente is a pleasure tour par excellence: pass through an enchanted beech wood to reach a bergerie and then ascend along an open mountain ridge which presents marvellous views of Monte d’Oro and of the Migliarello chain on the other side of the valley.
Starting point: Col de Vizzavona, 1163m, alternatively the transmission station, 1198m, at the end of the access road (350m) that turns off and heads southwards at the pass.
Height difference: not quite 1000m.
Grade: strenuous mountain hike along well-marked paths; the ascent to the summit requires light scrambling.
Refreshment and accommodation: restaurants and hotels in Vizzavona, campsites in Tattone.
Map: IGN 4252 OT (1:25.000).
