Popolasca is located at 680 metres above sea level and is part of the old parish of Giovellina, in Upper Corsica. It is a mountainous territory, whose highest peak is Punta Cavallare (1736 m), which is part of the Aiguilles de Popolasca. Two small streams have their source in this village: Mulinu and Padule. In general, Popolasca has an important vegetation, mainly composed of holm oaks.
If you like desert and steep landscapes, Popolasca is an exceptionally good starting point for you. The Aiguilles de Popolasca – whose highest peaks are Punta Cavallare (1736 m) and Cima a i Mori (2180 m) – are located at the end of the Corsican regional nature park.
This village is part of two natural areas of ecological, faunistic and floristic interest: Massif des aiguilles de Popolasca, Rundinaia Vallon de Castiglione and Grotte de Pietralbella, tourbière Moltifao, chênaie verte. Popolasca is part of the regional natural park of Corsica.
In this village, you can visit the parish church of St Dominique (16th-17th century), which has a high bell tower built in baroque style. The main façade is not very decorated, it is quite sober compared to the churches that you can usually visit in Corsica. On the right of this church, you can see an old stone building, which today houses the village hall. At the north entrance of Popolasca, you will find the ruins of the chapel of St John (17th century), which is located next to the cemetery.
Popolasca is crossed by the D18 road and by the D84 one. This small village is located at 27 km from Corte and at 60 km from Bastia.
