The viaduct over the Vecchio, known by everyone under the name of the Eiffel Bridge, is located between Venaco and Vivario. From Vivario you must take the T 20 road for three kilometres and then the N 193 road towards Venaco. You can park your car on the embankment near the bridge.
The Eiffel Bridge overlooks the Vecchio and was built between 1891 and 1894 by the engineer Maurice Koechlin (1856-1946), by the builder Guillaume Tollinchi and by the construction company Levallois-Perret – the name that the construction company founded by Gustave Eiffel (1832-1923) took after the Eiffel’s retirement. The train between Bastia and Ajaccio goes over this viaduct, which is 171 metres long. The Eiffel Bridge has been classified as an historical monument since 1976 and it is the largest viaduct in Corsica: you can imagine that its construction caused a stir at the time... What an idea to build an all-metal bridge in the middle of nature!
This viaduct overlooks several beautiful natural pools that you can reach from the embankment: all you have to do is walk down the stairs! If you like sunbathing and swimming or if you are looking for peace and quiet then do not hesitate to visit the beach of Vivario!
