Description

Corte is the historical and cultural capital of the island: today the University of Corsica is located in this town. Corte has many architectural and historical treasures including the citadel, the church of the Annunciation, the statue of Jean-Pierre Gaffory (secretary to the king of Corsica Theodor von Neuhoff, general of the Nation, patriot who fought against the Republic of Genoa), the avenue Pasquale Paoli (one of the most representative figures during the war of independence and during the period of the Corsican republic)...
At the foot of the citadel you can find the wonderful beach of Baliri, with its fine sand. Let's be honest: the beach of Baliri is not the wildest corner of Corsica but thanks to the Tavignano river you could escape the summer heat. This beach is a little corner of paradise that you can reach without any effort. Sport lovers could dive from the bridge or from the rocks overlooking the river, but you can also take a nap in peace.
