Place De Gaulle (or Place du Diamant) marks the separation between the old city and the new districts.
Facing the sea, you can admire the monument dedicated to Napoleon and his four brothers built (1865) on the plans of Violet-le-Duc. Because of its shape, it was nicknamed "the inkwell". The statue of Napoleon I on horseback dressed in the Roman style was sculpted by Lucien Barry, Joseph Thomas, and Louis de Petit and Jérôme de Maillet.
