Short walk to the »Rooster’s Piss« by the Ospédale reservoir

This route is highly recommended, not only because it passes the spectacular waterfall, the Piscia di Gallo (»Roster’s Piss«) but also because of the dramatic landscape of the Ospédale region. Granite domes and boulders, bizarre rock formations and beautiful forests are in abundance here. It’s a great pity and a sad fact that the path needs no other markings than the refuse left daily by hundreds of seasonal tourists.

Location: L’Ospédale, a village above the Gulf of Porto-Vecchio with panoramic views south of the Ospédale reservoir. Daily bus service to Porto-Vecchio and Zonza (Walk 49).
Starting point: pay car park (3 €) with snack bars, 920m, 3.5km past the retaining walls of the Barrage de l’Ospédale.
Height difference: about 150m.
Grade: easy walking on well-marked and distinct paths. Sturdy walking shoes are recommended for the steep and slippery descent to the waterfall.
Refreshment and accommodation: restaurants in Ospédale, hotels and campsites in Zonza and Porto-Vecchio.
Advice: the best time of the day for the walk is before noon since this is when the waterfall is bathed in sunlight and you can avoid the hordes of tourists who tend to appear later in the day. After longish periods without rainfall, the stream dwindles to just a trickle.
