Pietricaggio is located at an altitude of 633 metres and is part of the ancient parish of Alesani, in Castagniccia. This village is located in the centre of the Alesani Valley and was an obligatory stop for the many paths that crossed the valley. Today it is a good starting point for many excursions suitable for the whole family. Pietricaggio is part of the Corsican regional nature park and is surrounded by centuries-old chestnut trees.
Today, Pietricaggio is known for the quality of its livestock products, in particular sausages and cheese.
This village is renowned for the strong character of its inhabitants. It is no surprising that Pietricaggio provided exceptional men who fought on the side of Pasquale Paoli, in particular Lieutenant Jean Pasquin Saravalle.
The parish church of San Salvatore (18th century), built in Baroque style, is worth a visit: its magnificent interior decoration was made by the painter Domenico Baino in the first half of the 18th century. Above the village there is the old hamlet of Vitulettu – abandoned at the beginning of the 20th century after many vendette – which starts living again thanks to a family of German origin.
