Our Lady of Lavasina church from the seventeenth century, was built over the older Madonna delle Gracie chapel, which itself had been built over an even older Roman religious site. This sanctuary door at the top of its tower protects a statue of the Virgin Mary. Our Lady of Lavasina is considered the Lourdes of the Island of Beauty. On September 8th, there is a barefoot procession that starts north of Bastia like a former pilgrimage, and continues to Our Lady of Lavasina. The altar of the church is surmounted by a miraculous painting that is the object of great devotion. The sanctuary of Lavasina is 15 minutes from Bastia.
