Short walk with marvellous views of the Balagne region
At the beginning of this route, you can enjoy a wonderful view of Monte Padru and Monte Grosso. Nevertheless, the panorama from Monte Tolu, embracing the Balagne region and wide stretches of the northwest coast, provides a climax to the walk and certainly counts as one of the island’s most beautiful.
Location: Speloncato, 553m, idyllic picture-book village in a panoramic location above the Balagne region.
Starting point: Bocca di a Battaglia, 1099m, mountain pass on the D 63 between Speloncato and Olmi-Cappella, lovely view of the Balagne region.
Height difference: D+/-300m
Grade: easy walk with short scramble at the summit. Long trousers more pleasant for walking through overgrown gorse.
Refreshment and accommodation: snack bar at the pass. Restaurants/hotels in Speloncato.
Alternative: from Monte Tolu you can climb in 1 hr. onto San Parteo, 1680m – the next prominent peak continuing along the ridge (cairns).
Map: IGN 4249 OT (1:25.000).
