Phenomenal 360° view from the southernmost 2000 metre summit
Monte Incudine is a fantastic panoramic summit that offers a view embracing the Bays of Ajaccio and Valinco as well as the east coast – in good visibility you can even make out Monte San Petrone.
Locations: Quenza, 813m, village southwest of the Bavella chain. Zonza, 778m, at the foot of the Bavella pass.
Starting point: about 4km from Zonza on the main road to Quenza, turn right on the D 520 towards Prugna until reaching the last houses of Scapa di Noce (3km). Parking possible at the highest point reached on the road, 896m (electricity pylon; junction with the forest road to Refuge d’Asinao, signpost).
Height difference: a good 1300m.
Grade: easy mountain hike along a forest road and well-marked footpaths. Good physical condition is required.
Refreshment and accommodation: overnight stay in the Asinao mountain hut (beverages, simple food, mattress dorm). Restaurants, hotels and campsites in Quenza and Zonza.
Alternatives: ascent to Monte Incudine also possible starting from the Bavella pass or from the Plateau du Coscione along the GR 20.
