Absolutely unique – the »Sugar Loaf« peak of Mont Tretorre
Mont Tretorre offers not only a first-class panoramic view from the top, but it is also a geological rarity, seldom found anywhere else in the world: the triple-peaked summit, towering over 100m in height, is formed from syenite, a grey, igneous rock containing feldspar, hornblende and some silicates. An impressive walk, but the summit ascent itself should only be undertaken by walkers with climbing experience and a good head for heights.
Starting point: centre of Guagno, 760m, 33km east of Sagone.
Height difference: 800m (add another 150m for the climb to the summit).
Grade: easy mountain walk, the climb to the summit requires absolute surefootedness and a lack of vertigo (some stretches of Grade II climbing).
Refreshment and accommodation: bar-restaurants in Guagno, hotels and campsite in Vico.
Alternative: from the foot of Mont Tretorre, bear to the left following along the cliff face and then climb over the ridge to Monte Cervellu, 1624m (1 hr.).
Map: IGN 4251 OT (1:25.000).
