Road access
From Ajaccio you must take road T 20 towards Bastia and then the road D 229 towards the village of Peri. Continue driving on this road for a little less than two kilometres. You could park your car near the bridge but be careful not to obstruct traffic, in particular during the summer season.
Description
The construction of a Genoese bridge was a long and meticulous undertaking and several factors had to be taken into account. From a technical point of view, the riverbanks had to be wide enough to support the masonry of the bridge itself. Furthermore, the two banks of the river had to be close enough to each other to make it possible to build a single-arch bridge. The arch of the bridge had to be built high enough to prevent water from blocking the passage in case of flooding. To conclude, it was necessary to find a place not too far from the village to defend the bridge in case of danger.
The Genoese bridge of Peri was built according to all these criteria: for this reason it is still in excellent condition. Near this bridge you will find two beautiful swimming spots. One of them is located downriver (before the bridge you must take the main road for about two hundred metres and then take a path that will help you reach your destination), while the other one is located upriver (you must take the path which starts just before the bridge and which will help you reach several natural pools, one more beautiful than the other).
