The maritime pine is a conifer from the Pinaceae family, not to be confused with the Aleppo pine or the Calabria pine. The tree can grow up to 20 to 30 meters high and can live to be 500 years old. Maritime pines that have a crack in the bark form large scales over time, repairing themselves. The needles are long, rigid and form in pairs, with a dark green color. Young trees grow straight, but tend to become twisted and crooked with age.
