The Grouper is the popular name given to a variety of fish of the family Serranidae. The Grouper is often associated with the Black Grouper or Red grouper which has almost disappeared as it is too easy for the fisherman to catch. But the Mediterranean has eight other grouper species, such as white grouper, gray grouper, orange spotted grouper, Haifa grouper, or the Malabar grouper. Groupers are known for their impressive size and weight: the Black grouper can reach 150cm long and weigh up to 100kg. Groupers like rocky areas at rather low depths (20 to 200 meters).
