Presentation
This short walk between the hamlet of Annunziata and the hamlet Conchiglio is thought to discover the historical and cultural heritage of the Cap Corse region. This trail passes through several graves surrounded by an almost untouched nature and leads to an unfinished millstone and to a Genoese bridge which is still in excellent condition – feel free to take a dip if you are hot.
In Conchiglio – a small hamlet which was founded by the ancient Romans – there are the remains of an ancient 14th century castle and several sheepfolds which can be reached thanks to some well-maintained paths. The hamlet of Annunziata is located to the north-east of Conchiglio: the church of the hamlet (16th century) houses an organ dating from the 17th century and several objects of great artistic and cultural interest.
Road access
The road-trip from Bastia to Barrettali takes 58 minutes for 49.6 kilometres. From Bastia you must take the D 80 road until you reach the marina of Giottani, then you must take the D 133 road for 1.5 kilometres. Later – please pay attention to the road signs – turn right towards the hamlet of Annunziata, and drive until you reach the church of the hamlet. You can park in the car park next to the church.
Itinerary
From the church you should follow the path flanked by cypress trees. This path passes through several tombs that overlook the sea and leads to the marine cemetery. Take a moment to admire this beautiful cemetery, then turn left following the signs for the Genoese bridge.
After a few minutes' walk you will reach a crossroads: turn left and walk through a small wood leading to the Genoese bridge. At the exit of the grove, you will find another crossroads: continue for fifty metres to reach the Genoese bridge. Near the bridge there are some natural swimming pools: do not hesitate to take a dip!
After the bath, you should return to the crossroads and turn right: you must climb up until you find the unfinished millstone and continue uphill until you reach the hamlet of Conchiglio: the path goes around many walled plots of land.
Keep walking until you reach a red house – from there you must take the D 133 for about 100 metres. Then turn left and keep walking until you reach a staircase. Go down the steps, turn left and follow the road until you reach the church and the car park.
