The fig tree of the family Moraceae, is an emblematic tree of the Mediterranean region. Cultivated for thousands of years, it is the only local representative of some 600 existing but often tropical varieties. The fig tree "male" does not bear fruit. It is also called "caprifiguier", ie fig goat.
