Description
Sant'Antonino is a mountain village which is located in the heart of the Balagne region near Calvi and Île-Rousse. It is a veritable mountain fortress, an eagle's nest.
The starting point of this walk is located in front of the village church. Take the path which leads to the cemetery and keep walking until you reach a small building which is located a little beyond the cemetery, on the right.
The path descends gently until it reaches a fenced area, from here the descent becomes a little steeper. Keep walking and feel free to pass through two gates to reach the convent of Corbara – which was founded in 1456 and remained open until the French Revolution. The convent was reopened in the second half of the 19th century and in 1861 Father Cormier – elected Superior General of the Order of Dominicans in 1904 and beatified in 1994 by Pope John Paul II – was appointed Prior of this convent.
To return to the starting point you must go back: turn left following the path towards the "Tour du Monte Sant'Anghjulu" and "Santa-Reparata-di-Balagna". You must climb for about 30 minutes, until you reach a plateau where you can catch your breath. Do not hesitate to open a gate and take the forest road which leads you to Sant'Antonio.
