Presentation
Luri belongs to the ancient parish of Luri, of which it was the most important town. This village is part of four natural zones of ecological interest, fauna and flora and has a great architectural and natural heritage.
This walk will take you to the abandoned hamlet of Mata, a fortified village dating back to the Middle Ages and which was probably destroyed by the Moors towards the end of the 16th century.

Road access
The road-trip from Bastia to Luri takes 43 minutes and covers 37.4 kilometres.
From Bastia you must take the road D 80 until the port of Santa Severa. Then you must take the road D 180 for three kilometres until you reach the crossroads for the hamlet of Campu. You can park at the crossroads to reach U Campu.

Itinerary
The path is well maintained and well-marked. To start your walk you must reach the hamlet of Campu, you must continue walking along the path that will take you through a forest of cork oaks and holm oaks. Keep walking until you reach the path which passes by the chapel of St Saviour.
Then continue walking until you reach the abandoned hamlet of Mata, towards the sea. Just before reaching the hamlet, you will find the remains of the tower of Mata. This tower was built for the defence of the village. After a few minutes' walk you will also run into the vestiges of a dozen small stone buildings and walls – the state of abandonment is more than evident: an imposing hundred-year-old oak tree stands in place of a house. Less than a kilometre away you will run into the Mata fountain, which once served as watering hole for the villagers.
