Short walk to one of the most spectacular ravines on the island
The Richiusa gorge at the foot of the fabulous Migliarello mountain chain is an absolute natural gem – the impressive ravine is just 3m wide and enclosed by over 50m high rock walls. It is a popular destination for canyonists, while walkers on the other hand, are content to make a short trip to the start of the gorge to take a refreshing dip in one of the wonderful pools to be found there.
Starting point: walkers’ car park in Busso, 570m, suburb of Bocognano (1.6km from the N193 at the upper end of the village, signposted).
Height difference: a good 100m.
Grade: not difficult, only the last part requires a bit of scrambling.
Refreshment and accommodation: in Bocognano (possible snack bar at the starting point depending on the season).
Alternative: walkers with more stamina are recommended to follow the signposted Richiusa circuit (3½hrs.).
Tips: canyonists continue by ascending the path on the left from the head of the gorge to then descend through the impressive gorge (read carefully the information board at the car park Busso). After the walk (in the afternoon), a rewarding experience is an excursion to the Cascade du Voile de la Mariée (from Bocognano via the D27; 10mins. from the road).
