The hamlet of Girolata is in the Parc Naturel Régional de Corse, and belongs to the municipality of Osani. Busy in the summer but less so in winter, this hamlet is actually accessible by sea (in the summer many boats bring day trippers) or hiking trails (the col de la Croix on the D81 or the Tra Mare e Monti south.) Legend has it that the Turkish pirate Dragut was captured here by the Genoese. With its fortress and old Genoese tower, the site was well protected during its long history of pirate raids.
