Presentation
Several paths start from the village of Meria, these paths will allow you to discover the architectural and natural heritage of Cap Corse.
This walk will allow you to discover the abandoned village of Caracu, which is made up of some twenty houses and an old chapel. Most of these buildings are still standing, but they can collapse at any moment: please be careful!
The abandoned hamlet of Caracu is not an isolated case in this region: indeed there are several abandoned hamlets such as Pastina, Muracce and Murteta. All these villages were destroyed by the Barbary pirates in the 17th century.

Road access
The road-trip from Bastia to Meria takes 47 minutes for 39.6 kilometres.
From Bastia you must take the D 80 road until you reach the marina of Meria. Then you must take the D 135 road and drive to Meria. Keep driving until you reach the cemetery, where you can park your car.

Itinerary
This walk is rather easy: the path is well maintained and well-marked, shaded by a small forest of cork oaks.
After parking your car near the cemetery, you must walk downhill until you reach the large tombs located at the same height of a hairpin bend. Then you must walk along a path flanked by tombs, this path will take you further and further into the vegetation and the Corsican scrub. After a few minutes of walking, you will be inside a forest of cork oaks. Continue walking along the path.
The walk is rather easy and after 45-50 minutes you will reach your destination. Continue walking, but you should bear in mind that few minutes before reaching Caracu you must climb quite steeply for a few minutes along a well-maintained path. This village is full of charm, but pay attention because several walls can collapse at any moment.
To return to the starting point you must take the same path until you reach the first ridge. Then you must turn right and take a well-shaded path that will allow you to reach your car.
