Presentation
Nonza is part of a second-generation natural zone of ecological interest, flora and fauna. Here you can see several protected species, such as bats and golden eagles.
This walk will allow you to discover Nonza's architectural and natural heritage: the path takes you from the village to the black beach, passing through several terraced gardens.
The most remarkable building is the Pauline Tower, which was built by order of Pasquale Paoli to watch over the gulf of Saint-Florent.

Road access
The road-trip from Bastia to Nonza takes 34 minutes and covers 30.2 kilometres.
From Bastia you must take the road D 80 until you reach Nonza. You can park your car on the edge of the road at the exit of the village.

Itinerary
The path is well maintained and well signposted. This walk starts from the centre of the village, on the road which dominates the beach and many terraced gardens. Take the stairs until you reach the fountain of Santa Ghjulia (there are fifty-four steps). This fountain has a legendary origin: it is said that during the martyrdom of St Ghjulia her torturers cut off her breasts and threw them against a rock, from which a miraculous spring sprung. That is why this source of water is a pilgrimage destination and is considered miraculous.
Continue uphill, then turn left to follow the path that takes you through large cedar terraces – in the past the cultivation of cedars was very important for the economy of Nonza. Keep following the path until you reach the beach, passing through several terraced gardens covered with Mediterranean scrub. The beach is very beautiful. Continue walking in the direction of the village until you reach the remains of the small old harbour. From here you must walk up to the old cedar shop.
To return to the starting point, you must climb up until you reach the Santa Ghjulia fountain and the village of Nonza.
