With its avenue of plane trees, Cauro is the first mountainous village you can reach once you leave Ajaccio in the direction of Sartène, at the foot of the Col St Georges.

You can simply cross the village, but if you take the time to stop and stroll through its alleys, you can discover pretty stone houses or the Santa Barbara church, dating back to the 15th century and restored and enlarged in the 19th century.

According to the legend, the skull of the hero Bastelicais (Sampiero Corso) was buried nearby.
