Description
Pay attention the tower of Olmeto is located at the village of Monacia-d'Aullène and not at the village of Olmeto: this tower takes its name from an ancient "olmeto" which means grove and which has now completely disappeared. This walk is perfect for families with children. The view over the village of Monacia-d'Aullène and over the famous Omu di Cagna – an amazing rock which is located at 1217 metres above sea level – is remarkable.  This tower is part of the circuit of Genoese towers built from the 16th century to protect the island from pirate raids.
The path is well maintained and marked in yellow: you will run into a small building in poor condition around which there are some boats and surfboards. In front of this makeshift warehouse you will see a small wall, which you must climb over to continue your walk. Take the sandy path in front of you and walk straight ahead until you reach the Olmeto tower.
When you reach the tower, you can return to the starting point by taking the same itinerary or you can continue walking along one of the paths of the Conservatoire du Littoral. If you walk northwards you will reach the beach and the lion of Roccapina – two small natural wonders halfway between Bonifacio and Sartène – if you walk southwards you will reach Bruzzi and its magnificent coral beach.
