Presentation
Porticciolo is part of the municipality of Cagnano, of which it was an important port. This small village has an authentic charm thanks to its several houses with slate roofs.
At the border of Cagnano stands the Genoese tower of Losso, also known as the Tower of the Eagle: it was one of the ten towers which protected the region of Cap Corse during the 16th century.
This short walk is perfect for families and will allow you to discover the remains of three mills located along one of the waterways which cross the region. You can also visit the Saliva mill, which is still in operation and which is located in the hamlet of Terre Rosse.
Road access
The road-trip from Bastia to Canari takes 59 minutes for 29.7 kilometres.
From Bastia you must take the D 80 road until you reach the hamlet of Porticciolo. Then you must take the D 132 road and continue driving until you reach the hamlet of Ortale, where you can find the town hall. You can park your car in the parking lot of the town hall.
Itinerary
The path is well-marked and well-maintained, you will have no problem to orientate yourself.
From the car park you must walk towards Piazze. Just before reaching this hamlet, you must turn right and keep walking until you reach an old bread oven. From the oven you can walk through the village along the main street until you reach the lower part of the village.
Then you must take the path which descends towards the stream of Guadone. Keep walking until you reach a Genoese bridge and the remains of the first mill. You will run into the remains of the old village of Mitile, which was completely abandoned in the 1940s. Nature has reclaimed its rightful home: you can only see the remains of three mills and some old stones that bear witness to the passage of man. Take a moment to admire the view in front of you and then continue until you reach the path that runs alongside the watercourse.
Go back along the same itinerary.
